Q: How many books may a student borrow?

A: The Library does not limit the number of books a student may borrow. The circulation policy, including loan periods and restrictions, can be found here.

 

Q: Does the library have movies? 

A: Yes, the Library has several DVDs that are subject-based. Please speak with a staff member for assistance.

 

Q: Can students check out reference books or magazines?

A: Reference books and magazines may not be checked out, but students may make copies. Savery Library follows the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17).

 

Q: Does the library have any popular fiction?

A: Yes, the Library does have a section of popular fiction, but the overall collection focuses on academic materials.

 

Q: Are cell phones allowed in the library?

A: Cell phones are allowed, but all cell phones should be set to silent or vibrate. Texting in the library is fine, but all calls should be made outside of the building.

 

Q: Are students allowed to have food and drink in the library?

A: Yes, students may have food and drinks in the library, but drinks must have a lid. Students are expected to clean up after themselves. This policy is subject to change if students do not comply with this expectation.

 

Q: Is the library open during student breaks?

A: The library is closed whenever the College is officially closed. Please check with a member of the Savery Library staff to verify closings.  

 

Q: Does the library have any study rooms?

A: The library has two study rooms and two classrooms that may be reserved (with sufficient notice). You can reserve any of these spaces here.

 

Q: Are there computers available for student use in the library?

A: Yes, the library has 40 computers in the computer lab on the first floor, two Macs at the reference desk on the second floor, and four computers in the Reference Room on the second floor. Students are welcome to use these computers for personal business; however, they can be asked to move if another student needs the computer for academic purposes. Headphones are required for listening to music or watching videos.

 

Q: What if research leads the student to items at other libraries?

A: If the library does not have a book a student needs, the student can arrange to borrow the book from another library using Interlibrary Loan.

 

Q: Can students use the Library’s e-books, journals, or online content from home?

A: Yes, all electronic resources are available through the search bar at the top of this page. To access our databases, you will be prompted to enter your campus SSO. Guest access is currently unavailable, but we hope to remedy that soon.

 

Q: What is the Library of Congress classification?

A: The Library of Congress subject heading system of classification is a system used for categorizing books by subject.
